Vážení členové, zájemci o autorské právo, zde najdete pozvánku na výroční kongres Copyright Society of the USA. Bude se celý odehrávat v panelech od 9. 6. 2020 a to online.
I hope this letter finds you safe and healthy as we navigate through these challenging days.
The Copyright Society officers, staff, and planning committee have been working hard over the last several weeks planning and preparing for the 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting. Our members expect the highest-caliber programs at the Annual Meetings and our planning committee’s tremendous work all but guarantees that this year’s panels will meet or exceed those expectations. I thank all of the committee members and panelists for being so nimble and accommodating during these times.
Our goal is to replicate the in-person Annual Meeting as much as possible. We recognize, however, that it is difficult for members to commit to two straight days of back-to-back virtual panels. Therefore, we will be holding panels on each Tuesday and Thursday in June, starting with the View from the Copyright Office on June 9. We have also scheduled our annual meeting of the members for June 11, and social activities such as virtual happy hours and a trivia game on Fridays in an effort to allow attendees to meet, catch up, and socialize (a critical component of our gatherings).
The Society is offering two registration options: (a) full registration for all panels, or (b) registration for one of two tracks consisting of three panels each. This year’s registration price takes into account the reduced (but not negligible) costs that the Copyright Society will incur for holding the meeting virtually (subscription to the video teleconferencing platform, administrative costs, etc.), the number of CLE credits offered, and, most importantly, the economic difficulties that this pandemic has created for attendees. As a result, whether you opt for one track or both, the cost of attending will be much lower than in-person attendance. We also recognize that law students are among the hardest hit by current events, and, therefore, we are making the meeting free to all student members this year, including 2020 graduates.
After researching several technologies, we believe that Zoom is the best platform to host the 2020 meeting. We know that some members may have concerns using Zoom (or, for that matter, any virtual platform). With Zoom’s recent security and privacy updates, server capacity, widespread adoption, and ease of use, we are confident that it is robust and secure enough for our needs. In fact, we successfully hosted a recent New York Chapter meeting with over 150 participants worldwide.
I am especially excited that we are able to convert the 2020 Annual Meeting to a virtual format, as it will be my last as the President of the Copyright Society. It has been an honor and a privilege working with the officers, trustees, committee members, staff, and all of you these past two years. The dedication, enthusiasm, and compassion I have seen these past weeks shows the true character of our membership and makes me honored to be a part of the Copyright Society.
All best
Glenn G. Pudelka
President
